Hi jpopesku,

Sure enough they aren't there... For now can you please download the 40855 build and go to the CASKDotNet\Communities...\..\.. folder to get them? We (ISO 15926 team) release on Friday and we're all in crunch mode and we have our son (Senior) graduating this week so things are crazy..... I'll get to it early next week and clean up the source to ensure it is complete.

Appreciate your patience and I'll help you through any issues encountered so we can get you up and running as soon as possible!

Hello again!

When I had initially run the setup.exe or WebsiteInstall.msi, I get:

"The installer was interrupted before CASK could be installed. You need to restart the installer to try again."

When I restart the installer and get the same message.

So I decided to try things "on my own" and downloaded the source code. Everything loads properly in VS2008 SP1, and I can get the Admin pages. However, after setting up "localhost", for example, I try to go back to my site and get

Could not failover to /Website/communities/common/themes/default/skins/contentskins/parentsection_parentsection.ascx

Sure enough, when I look in the /common/themes/default/skins folder, the ContentSkins and ControlSkins subfolders are not there. :(

Any suggestions?

Thanks, Bill -- that did the trick. I thought I had turned off UAC long ago, but apparently I had turned it back on...

Try turning off the UAC (steps follow)

Start ->Control Panel -> User Accounts -> Uncheck Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer and click OK at last.

Restart the computer.

Let me know if you still have problems - I'm on Windows 7 now but was on Vista since it was in Beta so I'm confident it will run/install under vista. Not sure if I was still doing development on CASK when SP1 came out... I suspect when you turn off the UAC you'll be fine.

Alas, right-clicking on CSKInstall.application doesn't give me the option of running as Administrator. Any suggestions?

I'm running VS2008 SP1 on Vista SP1.

The CASK 2.2.x will continue to evolve under the current framework; I will maintain, tweak, tune, make it easier to user. However, *most* of the new development will be focused on the CASK 3.0 version which will replace the current infrastructure (will no longer have support for VS2005).

+ The data access layer will be replaced with the Entity Framework.
+ The business logic layer will utilize LINQ.
+ A "plug-in" module interface will be introduced to isolate developers from the complexity of the system
+ A WPF Application based on the Managed Extensibility Framework (http://www.CodePlex.com/MEF) will be introduced - it will be a desktop administration manager for the CASK website.

With the above completed
+ Scott Guthrie's MVC ASP.NET application will be used to replace the current infrastructure; I will be waiting until it is released to minimize risks and refactoring.

What does this mean for CASK 2.x code? All of the existing libraries in CASK 2.x are deprecated. I will create new libraries and assemblies which will be in the http://www.Codeplex.com/SDMS project. The goal is to keep existing Database objects intact, as-is, for backwards compatibility (new stored procedures, tables, views, relationships, etc will be created). CASK 3.0 will actually grow and reside in the SDMS application until it is released - shortly thereafter will become the CASK 3.0 and will be pulled out of the SDMS application. This will ensure the stability of this project for those of us that rely on it for ourselves and our clients.

On the releases tab you'll find a SetupDatabaseSQL script. When setting up client sites on external ISP systems I'll run the script against their database and then transfer the data from my local box (I'll run the CSKInstall on it) to their site.

Sorry for the delay Sam - looks like CodePlex now supports email notifications (which I just turned on) so I'll now be notified.

You can create your own by selecting the project, right click - select properties, select the signing tab, click on Choose a strong name key file, chose New.

I have SQL Server db installed BUT cannot setup the default database.

Is there a script (+ text files of sample data) that I can load?

I can manually create databases etc on SQL server 2005 express (using the management studio)

I running everything from my local XP machine. and using the link at

http://www.global-webnet.net/CSK/CSKInstall.application

to setup the database.

I have full admin rights to my local machine

I just complied with final test for the VS2005 (CASKVS2005.SLN) and VS2008 (CASK.SLN) solutions; both compile and run without error; I tested the download file to ensure there were no missing references.

I used Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition Version 8.0.50727.867 (vsvista.050727-8600) and Visual Studio Team System 2008 Version 9.0.21022.8 RTM.

Although CASK Ver 3.0 will entail a rewrite that will not be supported under VS2005 there is nothing in the current build that will prevent the VS2005 IDE from working with a little work - which I did ;) Please reference the Source Code tab for Change Set: 33522.

navidfaridi, I won't be moving to SQL Server 2008 until after I release CASK (pushing for mid June) so yes, it will support SQL Server 2005 :)

Change set 33522 comments follow: Created new CASKVS2005 solution and updated projects as applicable so that they will compile under both Visual Studio 2005 and 2008 (CASK.SLN is the VS2008 solution). I will ensure that CASK, under development and for the next release, will support both 2005 and 2008 solutions. Note: CASK version 3.0 (currently under development in the http://www.CodePlex.com/SDMS project) will not support VS2005 (it will utilize LINQ and the new WCSF/WCSF/WSSF factories but I trust it will be a year before I am ready to release CASK 3.0.

Much movement went on with namespaces (to ensure every namespace properly reflected it's class location) so I'm not sure if this is a reported issue with the latest build or not but I will make sure to resolve this for the next release (if it hasn't been addressed yet). Is these two (sql ,vs ) is enough for opening it and starting for some customization or development on CASK ?

or I need another app(s) ?

Currently I'm using Visual Studio Team System 2008 - Microsoft had released the Smart Client Software Factory for VS2008 and I have been working furiously on the next release since (reference http://www.Codeplex.com/SDMS source tab) . The SDMS application will have a WinForm and Web interface with the Web application being the next version of CASK - I'm working on the infrastructure and hope to have it to a point where I can start coding the new installation routine within the next two weeks. Once completed I will release the next version of CaskDotNet (which I use on my production sites) and will go into maintenance mode with it as I rewrite CASK using the new Web Client Software Factory - my goal is to utilize CASK data structures with minimal changes (and an upgrade path for what changes I have to make).
